Mr. Yang grew up in a fishing village in Taiwan. As an art student he won a graduate fellowship in fine arts to the University of Pennsylvania. As a fabric designer he worked for various fabric houses before accepting a position with P. Kaufmann in 1973. In 1975, Mr. Yang’s Orient Express Collection became an instant hit. Following this success, Mr. Kaufmann would become his business partner not only at P. Kaufmann, but also Jay Yang Designs. Jay Yang Designs sold to Croscill for bedspreads and Wamsutta for sheets. Later Mr. Yang would also design sheets for Springmaid.
